MSTCA.org Refresh

Stephen Burke

A refresh of the MSTCA website using modern technologies.

Overview

The Massachusetts State Track Coaches Association (MSTCA) website was in need of a refresh. The site was built using filezilla to update HTML and was not mobile-friendly. It was also not secure and was not being indexed by search engines. The MSTCA wanted to modernize the site and make it more user-friendly.

Solution

I built a new site using Gatsby, a modern static site generator. This allowed me to use modern technologies like React, GraphQL, and Netlify. The organization wanted a blog component, so I used Airtable to help the content authors easily add new blog posts.

I also added the ability to archive race results and meet information. This was done using Airtable as well. It was important to the MSTCA to have a database of records that serves as a central location for all meet results and records.

Here is a table of the tech stack used for the project:

TechDescription
GatsbyStatic site generator
ReactJavaScript library for building user interfaces
GraphQLQuery language for APIs
NetlifyHosting and continuous deployment
AirtableDatabase for blog posts and meet results

We are still preserving the old site’s content for historical purposes, but the new site is now the main site for the MSTCA.

Note: All styles, layouts, and content are chosen and maintained by the MSTCA.

Results:

Old Site: MSTCA.net

New Site: MSTCA.org
